Denise took her first yoga class in 2006 and was immediately hooked. As a stressed out high school student, she was so happy to have found something that made her feel grounded. She continued to practice for about 7 years before she decided it was time to teach. She enrolled into a 200 hour yoga teacher training and after completing that, jumped right into teaching. She found that the more she taught, the more she wanted to learn! In 2014 she continued her studies of alignment-based yoga with Sue Elkind and Naime Jezzeny at Dig Yoga. She has now earned her 500 Hour Teacher Training certificate through Dig Deeper Yoga Studies. She is enthusiastic about teaching her students how to practice asana in a safe and sustainable way. She also strives to show her students how yoga can support a healthy, happy and mindful life.

To me yoga is the science and art of living well. My 17 years of study and practice has helped me to construct a life that has meaning and depth and has given me an enhanced sense of wonder and beauty about even the “mundane” things in life.  Yoga and its levels upon levels of teachings have prepared me for some of life’s more difficult challenges and obstacles and allowed me to switch perspectives and be more fluid in my outlook. My 200 hour teacher training (2004) was with Connie Miller, an original Kripalu resident and teacher. My 500 hour teacher training was with Sue Elkind and Naime Jezzeny (2016). My specific emphasis and area of interest was in therapeutics and the ways proper body alignment can heal injuries and promote health. You will still find me as a regular class goer at Dig Yoga because I love it there. I taught yoga for five years but am currently constructing my life as an art gallery owner and curator in Ambler, Pennsylvania. I live in Horsham, Pa and am mother to three children and grandmother to three boys.  The yoga teacher in me lives on everyday as I share the fruits of my years of study with others and at the same time receive the intimate connections that happen so spontaneously and frequently when hearts open and touch.

Chris’ interest in yoga started around 2005 as a way to develop greater flexibility and strength to support other athletic activities:  running, biking, and swimming.   Through the practice of yoga, he became interested in its open and accessible philosophy; it’s focus on body awareness and how the teachings of yoga can easily be applied to daily life.  As his  yoga teachers often say, “its all yoga”. In 2010, Chris completed his first 200-hour teacher training and started teaching yoga classes.  In 2013, he completed his second 200-hour teacher training at DIG Yoga.  “I feel very fortunate to be able to study under the direction of such gifted and knowledgeable teachers.”  His goals are to continue to develop his personal practice and his teaching practice and to offer classes that are both challenging and fun. Chris works full time in the I.T. industry and fully appreciates the benefits that a yoga practice offers for both the body and mind.

Summer Yates is a working artist and art educator, with an MFA in fine art. Being an artist and former ballet dancer, she is naturally flexible in mind, body, and spirit.  During college her sister, a long time yoga teacher and Summers primary mentor, introduced her to yoga.  After 10 years of practicing ashtanga and vinyasa styles of yoga, Summer was drawn to alignment- based hatha yoga.  Her desire to teach yoga surfaced in response to her dynamic teachers, Naime Jezzeny and Sue Elkind. In 2014 she received her 200-hour teachers certification through Dig Yoga. Her accessible teaching style is genuine and reflects her energetic and expressive nature. Her desire to navigate the continuous play of movement and stillness in the body and mind is how she challenges herself in both her artistic and asana practice, which she brings into her classes as an opportunity for growth. She is passionate about holding a space for her students to open to their curiosity, vulnerabilities and capacity to love.  In addition to her asana yoga practice, Summer is a Bon Buddhist practitioner and meditation student of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and Marcy Vaughn.  She and her husband, a fellow artist and dharma practitioner, navigate their journey together, along with their ultimate teacher, their five year-old daughters.
