Step 1: Ground Yourself In Children's Yoga

July 7 – July 9, 2017

Based on the principle that you must ground yourself before grounding others, this training is an invitation to create an authentic presence, complete engaging groundwork and receive a well-rounded introduction into all aspects of teaching yoga to kids and teens.

Upon completion, you are eligible for the Elevator Pass and entry to our private online group as well as a listing on our website as a Grounded Teacher with reference to your bio and teaching schedule.

You may take this training as a stand-alone course or as the first step toward certification.

This 22-hour training includes the following:
1.    Introduction to Grounded methodology
2.    Gain proficiency in our 84 Grounded series poses as well as modifications and enhancements
3.    Child development through the lens of the chakra system and how to impart this wisdom to kids and teens so it is useful in everyday life
4.    Specialized mini flows and mantras to balance each chakra
5.    How to teach alignment to children with skill, clarity and creativity
6.    Teaching mindfulness, meditation and mudras to ages six-teens
7.    Breathing techniques appropriate for kids and teens
8.    Partner and group yoga including games
9.    Guiding principles for conduct management based on each student's constitution and prevailing elements
10.    Create a well-rounded yoga lesson plan that is engaging and meaningful to youth
11.    Group teach a Grounded yoga class

STEP 2:  expand your reach --- Teaching Yoga in Schools

September 23 – September 25, 2017

Training within actual schools allows you to see the nuances and efficiently gain the skills necessary to affect classrooms of children with the benefits of yoga and mindfulness through our signature United States of You curriculum.

This 22-hour training includes the following:
1.    Explore your inner states so you teach with authentic presence.
2.    Understand how to bring yoga into a school and it's impact on students, teachers, administration and the community
3.    Adapt a curriculum to specific needs of the class while adhering to state mandated standards for instruction
4.    Learn child development as applied to the practice of yoga (physical, mental, emotional, social)
5.    Gain proficiency in yoga assessments: emotional, physical, mindful and social, both pre- and post- class
6.    Teach a curriculum-based class in a physical education/health department as well as in a classroom with desks
7.    Define the class structure, scope and sequence
8.    Gain practical teaching experience
9.    Explore yoga for children with special needs
Including Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety and other bright children who learn differently
10.    Mindfulness based practices, meditation and mudras
11.    Guiding principles for conduct management based on school parameters and students needs
12.    An overview of Entrainment and Sound Therapy that may compliment and enhance your work with children
13.    Integrate best teaching practices

STEP 3: refine your teaching

November 4 – November 6

Working together to understand and identify the qualities and characteristics of the five universal elements within yourself and others gives you the advantage of knowing how to connect with and inspire children on a very deep level. Includes: lesson planning, honing observation, verbal adjustments, sequencing and more

This 22-hour training includes the following:
1.    Experience the 84 Grounded poses through the lens of the elements
2.    Gather with others to effectively create and expand lesson plans
3.    Create themes that inspire and motivate
4.    Learn Grounded essential alignment actions
5.    Effective sequencing and smooth transitioning
6.    Connections with stories, art, music and more
7.    Elements of a lesson plan in action – teach, reflect and refine
8.    How to work with the elements to inspire students' personal experiences
9.    Fine tune observation skills, teach to what you see, and learn the art of effective verbal adjustments
10.    Personalized feedback based on practice teaching in School Setting
11.    Polish your teaching practices to become an effective dynamic teacher

Step 4: Celebrate Your Elevation

February 2 – February 4

Complete your training with others who have stepped up to earn the distinction of Certified Grounded Teacher, ready and willing to make a difference in the world.

This 22-hour training includes the following:
1.    Gather to collaborate and celebrate
2.    Introspection and conversations to inspire best practices when teaching yoga to children
3.    Trauma Sensitive yoga training for youth based on up to date research and experience in the field
4.    User friendly information about PTSD and Neurological changes that occur from trauma, chronic pain and recurrent stress
5.    Proper technique and reasons for manual adjustments
6.    General anatomy and physiology of ages three – teen
7.    Therapeutics for kids and teens
8.    We will point you in the right direction so you can get down to business making your vision come true. Some specifics include establishing a company, insurance, waivers, and promotional materials.
9.    Discuss teaching opportunities and common scenarios including potential behavioral challenges and strategies for dealing with them
10.    Define your next steps in this work by creating an action plan for your vision
11.    Receive your 95 hour Certified Grounded Teacher certificate

Felicia Ruth, ERYT 500, MA Ed. 

Felicia has a deep educational background, holding a Master’s degree in Education and certifications to teach Yoga, Reiki and Grounded Kids Yoga, most recently completing coaching programs for Yoga and Meditation for Recovery.  Before teaching yoga, Felicia served as a School-wide Enrichment Specialist and Gifted and Talented teacher in the Livingston Public Schools. Her initial 500 hours of training included a focus on Structural Yoga Therapy, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, Vinyasa and Tantric teachings.  Felicia later found and was influenced by the teachings of Sri Brahmananda Saraswati and the meditative practice of Yoga Nidra.  Alongside her work with adults, she continues her work in education teaching yoga, mindfulness and self-regulation skills to students, faculty and parents of The Quaker School at Horsham.  Felicia believes that well-integrated body alignment reveals the capacity to go inward and discover one’s unique and inherent gifts.  As a practitioner, she has discovered her own love of music and shares this joy with her students.  Felicia is dedicated to helping people of all ages find greater ease, strength, freedom of movement and peace of mind.
