Billie-alumnipage.jpg

billie herzer  (flemington, nj)

Yoga has been a passion of mine, ever since I discovered it as a stressed out, insecure college freshman. I've always loved how yoga allows us to reconnect with our bodies, finding peace, balance and perspective. Sharing all of this with more people really continues to be the main driver for being a teacher.

One of the things that I love about teaching yoga is its inspiration to continue to grow and stretch my boundaries. It really drives me to research classes and to learn how to accomplish challenges from difficult to master asanas to the often elusive quiet of meditation. One of the great blessings of practicing yoga is that the journey truly is just as rewarding as the destination. Connecting with ourselves and what our body needs remains the main focus; no matter how many times I may fall out of crow pose or handstand, I will leave my mat feeling happier and more satisfied - being able to share this feeling of acceptance and joy is what I always strive for.

Each class still teaches me more about both yoga and myself. With each theme, from the result focused, such as hip openers to conclude a stressful day, over the more abstract such as chakras, to the very practical such alignment focus in challenging poses allows me to research and grow as well. As a scientist by training, I love that moment of understanding and then practical application as well as sharing that moment of understanding a pose, a breath, a transition. A big appetite for understanding and continuing to grow was the main motivator for pursuing my 500 hour certification through Dig Yoga. I am forever grateful to have a yoga school with amazing, extremely knowledgeable teachers of yoga teachers right in our backyard. The opportunity to build on my 200 hour training, adding the skills of a very alignment and anatomy focused teaching tradition is a wonderful addition to not only my own practice but also to my students as I continue to learn and grow.

To me yoga is the science and art of living well. My 17 years of study and practice has helped me to construct a life that has meaning and depth and has given me an enhanced sense of wonder and beauty about even the "mundane” things in life.

Yoga and its levels upon levels of teachings have prepared me for some of life’s more difficult challenges and obstacles and allowed me to switch perspectives and be more fluid in my outlook. My 200 hour teacher training (2004) was with Connie Miller, an original Kripalu resident and teacher.

My 500 hour teacher training was with Sue Elkind and Naime Jezzeny (2016). You will still find me as a regular class goer at Dig Yoga because I love it there and am still learning. I taught yoga for five years but am currently constructing my life as an art gallery owner and curator in Ambler, Pennsylvania. The yoga teacher in me lives on everyday as I share the fruits of my years of study with others and at the same time receive the intimate connections that happen so spontaneously and frequently when hearts open and touch.
