SomaQi ~ Effortless Power + Grace

This 3-hour workshop is to an exploration & inquiry into the body’s innate intelligence through somatic and qigong movements.  Moving slowly and mindfully with somatic grace, we will connect more deeply with the nervous system and promote total body coherence.  The fluid movements of qigong will help us to sharpen our focus, cultivate inner strength and find equanimity.

Our goal is to access & illuminate the core competencies of human motion, increase mobility and become more agile.  Somatics drop us deep into body awareness and qigong is great for improving coordination, circulation and vitality.

Building somatic intelligence while discovering qi can add insights into your already established movement practice or cultivate a new passion for body awareness and energy cultivation.

We will move, have fun and celebrate the gift of embodiment.

Somatic

Soma is derived from the Greek word meaning, “body.”  We will explore the body’s intelligence through movements focusing on the nervous system, evolutionary pathways, and total body coherence.   We’ll seek greater balance in the autonomic nervous system to help the body differentiate between active engagement & passive relaxation.

Qigong

Qigong — often called The Art of Effortless Power — has been practiced for thousands of years in the Far East with tremendous healing and regenerative benefits.  Qigong (also spelled chi kung or chi gung) literally translates to life energy cultivation.  Qi = energy, Gong = cultivation, practice.  It is a transformative physical, mental and emotional practice, which incorporates flowing movements that are accessible for all ages and body shapes.

It is great for improving coordination, circulation, vitality and helps to cultivate what’s called The Inner Smile.  Discovering qi can add insights into your already established movement practice or cultivate a new passion for body awareness and energy cultivation.

The benefits of qigong are vast and well documented.  Research shows improvements with blood pressure, heart function, sexual hormones, hypertension and fibromyalgia.   Qigong is known to help induce the relaxation response, which contributes to deeper rest and recovery.
